New York City, NY, April 15th — The Amusement & Music Owners Association of New York's Annual Gala, held this past Monday at Ben & Jack's Steakhouse in New York City, saw a full house of industry leaders from across the nation gathered to celebrate a significant figure in the amusement and music industry. The event honored Robert Dipipi, Vice President of Sales & Purchasing at Betson Enterprises, Inc., based in Carlstadt, New Jersey.
The gala kicked off with heartfelt introductions by Betson's CEO, Robert Geschine, and Michael Pace, the 2023 Guest of Honor and Founder of Pace-O-Matic Corp. Geschine reflected on Dipipi’s extensive career, highlighting his pivotal role in establishing Betson's Philadelphia office thirty years ago and his promotion to his current position thirteen years ago. Geschine expressed his gratitude for Dipipi's contributions: "Bob has helped bring Betson to levels we never dreamed could happen...we are so blessed to have him."
In an emotional acceptance speech, Dipipi shared his feelings of being overwhelmed by the recognition and described Geschine as "a father figure." He acknowledged the influence of Richard Kirby and Kevin Fritz, two key Betson executives, and extended his heartfelt thanks to the assembly, which included manufacturers, customers, competitors, and colleagues, saying, "This means so so much to me, and I consider all of you my family."
Dipipi also paid a special tribute to his wife, Gwen, who spoke about her husband's deep respect and genuine love for people within the Betson organization. The couple's connection and shared values were palpable, resonating with everyone in attendance.
AMOA-NY President Ken Goldberg took the stage to offer insights into the broader industry dynamics, especially the legislative achievements that have been crucial for business sustainability. "We have continued to prevent government leaders from increasing our taxes and convincing Federal regulators to provide bank accounts for our business owners has been huge," Goldberg noted. He also highlighted the significant increase in licensing activity as recorded by the New York State Liquor Authority, with 5000 new licenses and 2500 renewals this past year, showcasing burgeoning opportunities for operators.
Goldberg's narrative also touched upon the evolution in business practices within the industry, mentioning the strategic partnership formed by his family business with Bar Partners, which marked a significant move into the New York tri-state area's regional market.
The night also celebrated the musical achievements of Spyro Gyra, an iconic jazz fusion group honored as the 2024 "Jukebox Artist of the Year." The band, currently on their 50th Anniversary tour, has been a Grammy favorite over the years and thrilled the audience with classics from their extensive catalog, played on AMI Entertainment’s premium NGX "The Curve" Model Jukebox. Band members Jay Beckenstein, Lionel Cordew, Julio Fernandez, Scott Ambush, and Jeremy Wall, each brought their unique flair to the stage, making the evening a memorable celebration of both achievement and heritage in the amusement and music industry.
