On Friday, August 18, 2023, the world lost an incredible soul - Myrna Dorfman. Myrna's departure from this world was peaceful, but her absence will resonate profoundly in the hearts of those she left behind. Her life was a tale of resilience, love, and indefatigable passion.
Myrna was the beloved partner of Lyon Jacobs and the daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose Cohen. As a mother and mother-in-law, she was deeply loved and cherished by Steve Myro, Adam Dorfman and Elisa Backler, Elissa Dorfman and Kenny Gilman. Her grandchildren - Caleigh, Sierra Dorfman, Koby, Brett, and Rebecca Gilman - had the privilege of knowing their Bubbie's warmth and nurturing spirit.
Family was always at the forefront of Myrna's life. Beyond her immediate family, she held a deep bond with her brother, Leonard Cohen, and her niece and nephew, Felicia and Brian. Myrna's passing will also leave a void in the hearts of Lyon's family, and her wide circle of friends, especially those from the Allstar family.
Professionally, Myrna was a force to be reckoned with. She was a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur. Even as age advanced, her commitment to her work never waned, and she remained active until her last days. Her work ethic was a testament to her passion and dedication.
But Myrna wasn't all about work. She had a vibrant personal life that radiated her love for art. From painting to traveling, cooking to baking, she relished every moment. The holidays at her home were particularly special, filled with joy, laughter, and delicious feasts. Her fondness for music, ballet, and theatrical shows displayed her deep appreciation for the finer things in life.
In her memory, the family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Surgical Oncology Department on the 8th floor of the Royal Victoria Hospital. Their unwavering care and support played a pivotal role in Myrna's journey.
Her funeral service will be held at Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, August 21 at 12:00 noon. The burial will follow at Mount Royal Cemetery, 1297 ch de la Forêt.
For those wishing to commemorate Myrna's life and legacy, the family suggests donations to the Gynecology Oncology Division c/o the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation.
The Shiva will be strictly private, and the family kindly requests that their privacy is respected during this time.
If you are unable to attend the funeral service in person, a virtual ceremony will be available for streaming on Monday, August 21 at 12:00 noon through the provided link.
