The Amusement Operators Association of New York recently threw a vibrant gala at the renowned Ben & Jack's Steakhouse in the heart of New York City. This electrifying event served as a platform for music and amusement operators to engage in spirited discussions about the persistent hurdles of government regulation, as reported in a press release.
Kenny Goldberg, president of the association and a key figure at Emerson Amusements in Woodside, New York, drew attention to the relentless engagement of various government tiers, formulating policies that continuously throw wrenchers in the works for operators.
Goldberg proudly laid out the association's triumphant strides in legislative and regulatory victories:
- Overturning the New York City tax stamps and tax records.
- Eliminating the New York City tax on coin-operated amusement devices.
- Persuading the New York City consumer affairs department to legalize nine games per location.
- Making legal the presence of two pool tables per location outside the common show law.
Goldberg welcomed the guest of honor, Michael Pace, underlining that the gala's spirit was one of opportunity and optimism. He shed light on Pace's phenomenal five-decade-long journey in the amusement industry.
"We need the spark of inspiration, we need to absorb wisdom from Michael Pace's electrifying and fearless triumphs," Goldberg asserted during his presentation. He spotlighted numerous of Pace's innovative product launches, many of which were pioneering feats in the amusement games industry.
"The latest marvel is Dragon's Ascent, an ingenious blend of advanced technology tools designed to empower the operator. Its inventive gameplay and business model have drawn in and amazed leaders of the electronic game sector. Michael Pace, along with his gifted team, epitomizes the vibrant potential and exhilarating future of our industry," Goldberg expressed.
Embracing the honor, Pace described himself as "a mad scientist" constantly crafting an array of games to fuel small business expansion and deliver massive fun.
To the operators, Pace pronounced: "We thrive on your rapport with customers, your insider knowledge of prime locations, and your diligent crews who service and collect the game terminals. Without your crucial work, we wouldn't exist."
He showered praise on his wife, Karmin, recognizing her as an invaluable long-time partner. He then shared a delightful anecdote about Karmin, revealing a unique side to her.
"Let me share a delightful secret about Karmin. She proudly proclaims herself as a gold digger. Now hold your thoughts, not the type you're thinking of. We own a ranch in Montana, blanketed in tons of snow, harboring a real gold mine. Hence, Karmin's amusing 'gold digger' label…. And considering I own a pickaxe and shovel, I suppose I’m one too."
