Have you ever dreamt of flying over the Swiss Alps or exploring the depths of the ocean? Now, thanks to the innovative virtual reality (VR) amusement game Birdly, you can do exactly that from anywhere in the world.
Created in Switzerland, the Birdly VR simulator, distributed in the U.S by Barron Games, allows users to soar through the sky, dive into the ocean, and traverse landscapes that are otherwise impossible to reach. The concept might seem straight out of a science fiction movie, but it's now a reality that's revolutionizing the way we experience the world.
“The VR world is bringing an experience you’ve never done before or were able to do before,” said Greg Bacorn, the owner of Barron Games.
Over a decade ago, Bacorn and his fellow students from the University at Buffalo opened Barron Games in Cheektowaga, New York, where they started with the creation of an air hockey table that dispensed prize tickets. Their initial products were featured in popular amusement centers such as Dave and Buster’s and Chuck-E-Cheese.
The Birdly VR simulator, which recently won the title of the "most innovative product" at the amusement expo in Las Vegas, is a testament to the technological advancement of the video game and amusement arcade industry.
Riders embark on their virtual journey by boarding the Birdly and securing the VR goggles. After a quick demonstration, they are free to explore the virtual world, diving through the air, narrowly avoiding waterfalls and caverns in the Swiss Alps.
“There are a lot of technological advances that are happening here that we are just happy to be a small part of and bringing the most advanced and exciting virtual reality experiential machine and being in Buffalo and that makes us really proud to be apart of it,” Bacorn said.
The rise of tech jobs in Western New York and the development of new tech training programs at local colleges and universities are a testament to the forward momentum of the industry. Bacorn shared his excitement about the future and offered some advice for budding innovators, "Take a risk and do something that you never thought would be able to work."
Currently, Birdly VR simulators can be found at various locations across the U.S. However, Bacorn hopes to introduce this unique virtual experience to his home city of Buffalo in the near future. So, prepare yourself for an adventure of a lifetime as you virtually take flight with Birdly.
